Mauro Burnelli has been for years president of the section dedicated to folk dances of Polisportiva G. Masi and creator of the Reno Folk Festival.

Born in 1943, Mauro founded together with his wife Anna the company Meccanica Bruciatori in Casalecchio di Reno, always sponsor of Polisportiva and our Festival. Towards the end of the 80s, he became part of the Folk Dances sector, initially as a courses’ attendee and then, as a dancer of the Teamballo, a group dedicated to folk dances. In the following years, he has travelled thanks to his qualities all the possible steps of his career in Polisportiva: from simple attendee to organizer, to promoter/popularizer, to inventor of events and finally to President of the Dances sector, a post he held from 2000 to 2010.

Many initiatives have been created for the sector Folk Dances and for the Polisportiva G. Masi. Among these, the idea in 2002 to organize the Reno Folk Festival, a bet to which he believed immediately and which he carried on in the following years with more and more qualified and important collaborations until his death in 2015. In 2007 he promoted a collaboration with Estragon, the association that organizes in Bologna Irlanda in festa (Ireland celebrates), to bring folk dances in the program of the event, collaboration still ongoing. “Folk dances in and around Bologna” was synonymous with Burnelli, and vice versa. Always supported by a large team of collaborators, Mauro was the manifesto of folk dances and Reno Folk, and he had understood more than others the added value that folk dances have for building positive social relations, their great intercultural reach and their inter-generational value; a richness to be safeguarded to which he dedicated his energies and his passion.
