The Reno Folk Festival is a section of the G.Masi Sports club in Casalecchio di Reno, Italy. It was born in the firsts 80’s collecting and developing different experiences related to folk dances from a group of teacher and educators. Over the years it has gradually increased its activities, showing itself as one of the first organized groups for the promotion and dissemination of repertoires linked to popular tradition.
After an initial phase, where the dance courses were the main focus, in 1986 the Teamballo group born and gave a further boost to informative and promotional aspects. With the organization of the first balls the numbers of “folkers” grow and grow.

The characteristics of the Reno Folk from 96 to 2006 were: dance and instrument stages with wel-known Italian and foreign researchers and teachers ( D.Staro – P.Courbefin – B.Coclet – C.Padovani – P.Gala – R. Bucci – G.Gori – T. Chessa and G.Mereu – P. O Goddess – T. Edelman – Patrice Sauret – Bernard Coclet – Yv Leblanc – J.Rostagni – G. Godon – B. Guerbigny – J. Grollier – P. Leblanc – L. Fosset.- R. Cardona -A . Perez – D.Pece- P.Perez – U.Maiorano – Ballati everyone ), balls, shows and festivals of the territory and region.
Starting from those years Reno Folk began to differentiate its activities, the number of courses increases, on the third Saturday of each month a ball was organized and stages and activities in schools began to grow. In the same time it gives rise to external activities: a group, the Teamballo, an entertainment group, the Seven Steps, a musical group, the Strapazzon and a theater group, the Tresca. For several years this variety and richness gave strength to the group and it was unique in the revival of traditional culture.

In 2002, the Event: the first edition of the RenoFolkFestival, an idea of Mauro Burnelli and other teachers, to make Casalecchio the reference point for folk traditional dances and music. During those years, untill 2010 the two realities of the Masi and the Reno Folk get involved into different festivals as Granbaltrad, Vialfrè and Grand bal d’Europe, Gennetines , whith workshops and concerts.
After these first years, the situation changes with a progressive decrease of the variety in the activities till now, where the Masi is strongly engaged in the organization of dance courses and with a strong wish to continue the experience of the festival, at its 15th edition .

We decided to call this festival the RenoFolkFestival 2.0, the 2016 edition was a new adventure that melted the traditional folk with the new urban folk, a new approach to folk dances that from 2014 represents a real innovation in the panorama of folk music. Performers and promoters of this new trend in Bologna are the GDB or Giovani Danzatori Bolognesi. This year we have a new collaboration with the ARCI organization of San Lazzaro. It is an incredible opportunity to us all because we are going to live three days in beautiful dance rooms that will allow us to enjoy the festival at its higest point!

The collaboration between these three realities, which will be experimented troughout the year, will allow to build an important festival due to the artistic presences and dancers, a real tribute to a tradition, the popular one, which has been able to process forms of expression of great anthropological and cultural value.
